Rare 1974 DeTomaso Pantera On the Way to Mecum Houston 2017

Mecum is just one of those names that attracts some of the most expensive, high-end, collectible, and in this case, ultra-rare cars. At the upcoming Houston 2017 auction from April 6th-8th, a well-documented DeTamaso Pantera with only 10k miles will be up for grabs. This cars is both unique and full of history, yet it’s a model not a lot of people have ever seen.

Alejandro DeTomaso turned to auto manufacturing after he decided to retire from racing. By the time the late 1960s rolled around, he introduced the 4-cylinder Vallelunga and the V8 Mangusta coupes to the world.

When Ford showed interest in the company, going on the buy it in 1971, they wanted to a show a less radical model for the American market — and the DeTomaso Pantera was born as a successor of the Mangusta, debuting first at the New York Auto Show in 1970 with Ford’s backing.

The style for the Pantera came from Ghia’s Tom Tjaarda, and it was powered by an off-the-shelf Cleveland 351 that made 310-hp.  After the 1974 year model, Ford canned the Pantera, making this particular car one of the few senior year models of the run.

For an unrestored car, this Pantera is in amazing condition. The two previous owners put just under 11k miles between their ownerships.

If you’re interested in checking it out, you can see it at lot S101. The event will be covered by NBC Sports, you can check the broadcast times by area here.
