A Close Look at Truck Tech’s Project C10

Photos from The Block

Jeremy Bumpus’ 1971 Chevy C10 pickup truck is very unassuming at first sight. It looks like it has put in a few years of work, and the bod is moving into the patina zone. At closer look, this truck is anything but unassuming, it’s actually quite incredible. The classic Chevy pickup is actually dressed in custom paint, and powered by a modern LT1 Chevy Performance crate engine. Jeremy himself is also no average enthusiast, he’s a host at PowerNation’s Truck Tech show, and as you may have guessed, this truck was one of the main subjects of the show during season three.

Over the course of the show, the 1971 Chevy truck was taken down the bare frame. They wanted to go with a C10 truck since it’s one of the most common and popular pickup trucks they could have used as a subject. Jeremy wanted a truck he could drive daily and get groceries in, so instead of doing a flawless car show finish, he opted for the patina look so scratches and dings wouldn’t be a stressful occurrence.

Pace Performance provided the Chevrolet Performance LT1 engine, which replaced the Chevy small block engine — they were hoping to be one of the first to do the swap in the country into a C10. The engine is a Gen V LT1, so it’s the same powertrain as the C7 Corvettes, something you wouldn’t exactly expect to find under the hood of a classic truck. Otherwise, the other modifications are shorty headers so the exhaust fits up in the right position and a prototype front drive system.

Backing the powerful LT1 engine is a six-speed Tremec Magnum transmission, that feeds into a Yukon 3.73:1 geared rearend. It rides on a Brothers Truck air ride suspension and gets some powerful stopping capacity from Baer brakes. A set of Circle Racing 20×9” wheels from Summit Racing take duty on all four corners.

In addition to the ultra ‘cool guy’ patina paint, the exterior has upgraded bumpers, a billet grille, and Brothers Trucks LED taillights. Inside is a new steering wheel, steering column, and LMC Truck gauges.
