Hundreds of Firebirds flock to Dayton, Ohio for the 33rd Annual Trans Am Nationals!

Every year at the end of August, nearly 500 Firebirds, Formulas, Trans Ams and Firehawks gather in Fairborn, Ohio (just outside of Dayton) for the annual Trans Am Nationals. What started in the early-’80s as a way to get area Trans Am owners together, as well as Dayton-based Trans Am Club members in one location had stretched out to bring in Firebird fans from as far as Canada and California.

It’s a three-day weekend event that hosts hundreds of mechanical Birds, a swap meet, a car corral, a vendors area, a Saturday evening cruise to nearby Tipp City, a judged car show for many classes, a silent auction and a guest speaker in the lobby — in this case, it was Father of the Trans Am, Herb Adams.

This year was particularly exciting for us, as we not only covered the event, but shot several videos, including the video posted above, an interview with Herb Adams and two car features. We also brought along Project Redrum, our sister title’s project ’84 Trans Am that packs a 700 hp punch to the tires!

We even got up close and personal, with VSE’s Herb and Matt Adams, as well as Jim Haller, who owns a killer Fire Am that’s packing an LS-powered punch. You’ll have to wait until a later date to hear more about this car, and the exclusive insight that these gentlemen had provided, but it’ll well worth it!
