VIDEO: Ford GT40s Hammer it Out for the Alan Mann Trophy

Unlike many vintage racing events, the Goodwood races consists of real racing — it’s not just some chance for people to show off their collectible race cars. It gives car owners a chance to flex their classic muscle cars, but it also gives spectators a chance to see these legendary cars being driven to their full capacity. It’s also one of the only chances you’re going to get to see racing like this, without a time machine that is.

Goodwood never disappoints, but they really outdid themselves with this one. During the recent Member’s Meeting, the Alan Mann Trophy Race was unlike anything we’ve seen — the race consisted of 28 Ford GT40s pitted against each other.

This event represented the 74th Member’s Meeting at Goodwood, and more importantly, it was celebration of the 50th anniversary of the GT40’s first victory at Le Mans. The race is named in honor of Ford legend Alan Mann, and it was not an easy one for the racers, or their cars. At least three of the Ford GT40s were unable to even finish the race, which was only an hour long.

Alan Mann’s son, Henry Mann, even took part in the battle of the Ford GT40s — what a perfect way to carry on with the Mann legacy! This wasn’t Henry’s first time driving a GT40 on a circuit, but it was his first time racing one in this way.

During this highlight video, the commentator will walk you through the entire race in a hair under two minutes. What you’re not going to get, unfortunately, is much of a look at the cars, or any sounds from the race — but an hour long race compressed into two minutes doesn’t allow for much of that. If you want to watch the entire race, you can find it here, thanks to the Goodwood Road & Racing YouTube channel. If you have an hour to spare, you’ll thank yourself for watching the whole thing!
