VIDEO: The Rescue of a 1969 Z/28 SCCA Camaro from a Barn

It has been forty years since this car saw the light of day, such a shame! This is one of a few recent muscle car finds we’ve come across lately. While we have spent sometime trying to figure out what compels someone to park a muscle car and neglect it for decades, we’ll save the rant for another day. This particular muscle car is getting a second chance at life, and it all begins with plucking it from the barn it’s been stuck in as if it were in a catacomb for four decades.

When the guys start filming inside the barn, it barely even registers that there’s a car in there, but there is, and it’s a pretty special one too. This 1969 Camaro Z/28 was once raced by Ken Stoddard in many races during his career. In one race, Ken’s Camaro famously lost its rear wheel after coming out of a turn before the finish line straight. Ken had to go fishing for it in a pond before sitting out and watching the rest of the race. This Camaro is far from its glory days as it sits.

With the Camaro is all the documentation, including the original factory diagrams to convert the car to a SCCA racer. After a wreck, Ken switched cars and this one ended up with its current owner. It seems like fixing it up was in the plans, but the financial burdens of restoring a wrecked classic kept it from happening.

Although it’s sometimes difficult to talk someone in to letting go of their barn cars, the owner gave up the Z/28, and it was pulled and pushed out into the daylight once again. It seems like the Camaro wasn’t alone and kept the company of other project cars and parts over the years. We’ll be watching this car to see where the future takes it.
